To protect meeting privacy, Google Meet links will soon be permanently tied to their original calendar events. Learn how to generate unique links for your upcoming meetings.
We wanted to give you a heads-up about a small but important change coming to Google Meet on March 23, 2026.
What's changing?
In the past, some people would copy and reuse the same Google Meet link for different meetings. Going forward, each Meet link will be permanently tied to the specific calendar event it was originally created for.
What does this mean for you?
If you try to paste an old Meet link into a new calendar event, Google will show you a warning. This is to protect everyone's privacy, reusing an old link could accidentally give the wrong people access to your meeting recordings, notes, and chat messages.
What should you do?
Always let Google create a new Meet link for you. When creating a calendar event, just click "Add Google Meet video conferencing" and a fresh, unique link will be generated automatically. Avoid copying and pasting old Meet links into new events.
