The entrepreneurial spirit is evident in our chapters cross the country, where volunteer mentors advised individuals launching 53,377 new businesses last year. The federal government awarded an all-time high of more than a quarter of eligible Federal contracts to small businesses in fiscal year 2015, and more than $18 billion of those contracts were granted to woman-owned small businesses. More than 80 cities and Native American tribes have pledged to make the startup process easier through the Startup in a Day initiative launched in early 2016, providing additional opportunities for SCORE to work with aspiring and beginning small business owners in the years to come.
